Meet Our Founder: Dr. Angela Colasurdo

A Belief in Every Child's Potential

Dr. Angela Colasurdo’s work in literacy has always been rooted in a simple belief: every child deserves the opportunity to become a confident, capable reader and writer, and every educator deserves the knowledge, resources, and support to make that possible. This foundational principle inspired her to establish EquiLit.

Decades of Dedicated Experience

With more than thirty years in education, Angela has seen firsthand the difference that knowledgeable, responsive instruction can make in a child’s life. Her experience includes more than two decades as a classroom teacher, followed by more than a decade of work in literacy coaching, professional development, consulting, and higher education. She has also served as an adjunct professor, private tutor, and literacy consultant, supporting students, educators, schools, and organizations in strengthening literacy instruction and improving outcomes for all learners.

The Inspiration Behind EquiLit

The journey to creating EquiLit stemmed from Angela's deep understanding of the educational landscape and her unwavering commitment to equitable literacy access. She saw the need for a comprehensive approach that empowers both educators and families, ensuring every student has the tools to succeed. Her vision for EquiLit is to bridge the gap between research and practice and build strong literacy foundations across communities.
